What is the Fraxel Dual Laser?

Fraxel laser keeps the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum) intact without removing it but can reach the underlying skin layers to stimulate collagen production, rejuvenate the skin and provide skin tightening.

The Fraxel laser resurfacing machine uses two wavelengths:

The two different wavelengths target two different lesions, namely wrinkles and pigmentation. The first wavelength uses 1550 nm and targets the dermis for skin tightening and wrinkles reduction, while the second wavelength uses 1927 nm to target the pigmentation lesions. Both wavelengths have water molecules as chromophore that absorbs the photon energy of the laser.

Deep mode = 1550 nm laser

  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars.

Superficial mode = 1927 nm laser

  • Smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin
  • Pigmentation and Melasma treatment
  • Effective treatment of precancerous lesions

What results should I expect?

The treatment downtime for patients is usually between three to seven days. Patients may experience some immediate discomfort in the form of swelling, redness and pinpoint bleeding. Patients may also experience swelling and redness, itching acne and/or cold sores.

How to care for skin after Fraxel treatment

Treat the affected area in the same way a sunburn would be treated. Apply moisturizer and ice packs to help make the after-treatment more comfortable. A thin layer of Vaseline may be applied to protect and moisturize the treated skin. Please allow the skin to naturally peel, do not scrub or use exfoliating products. Keep away from any irritants such as harsh detergents and/or coarse cloths.

The first week after Fraxel

During the first week after treatment try to avoid alcohol, sun exposure, intensive exercise, and swimming ( pool water might have some harsh chemicals). Once the peeling process is complete it is fine to use Retin A and glycolic acid products again. We advise applying a PRP mask directly after the treatment to provide the best results with less downtime.

Using 30+ SPF sunscreen is very important to minimize long-term side effects. Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going out and reapply another layer directly before going out. We also recommend using a hat during the first two weeks. Ensure moisturizing creams are not too oily. For more information about before and after treatments, please click  here

Skin Tightening in Edmonton

Skin tightening is a general term that includes a wide spectrum of issues such as wrinkles treatment, deep and fine, scar removal and improving skin texture and providing a wrinkle removal. The approach of skin tightening in Edmonton mainly depends on the client's main issue or concern, therefore, we need to spend enough time counseling and discussing with the client before choosing the best treatment. There are different techniques to achieve the best results. One or more treatment could be combined:

Fraxel laser

With two wavelengths and fractional technology, Fraxel laser is the gold standard for wrinkles and pigmentation removal. It is suitable for all skin types and has a short social downtime. It also provides skin resurfacing and skin rejuvenation to improve skin texture. Please click here to know more about Fraxel

Fractora micro-needling and Thermage

Microneedles come as coated and non-coated and penetrate the skin up to 3 mm. It provides optimal healing for the skin layers to enhance skin rejuvenation and natural fillers protein production such as collagen. If you are interested to know more about fractional microneedling, please click here.

Thermage uses unipolar fractional radiofrequency waves without having needles that penetrate the skin.

At Albany Laser and Cosmetic Center, we collected state-of-art technologies to help you regain the tight skin that you have always been proud of. We understand that each patient is a unique case and we take the time to understand your concerns, root of the problem, and then suggest the best treatment, or combination of treatments, to get you the results in the fastest, safest and most economical way.

What is the best skin tightening treatment?

Skin tightening is a broad term. Treatments are used to erase fine lines and deep wrinkles from the face. This goal is achieved by peeling the skin’s outer layer, the epidermis, and induce the fibroblasts to produce collagen. Collagen is the main protein that produces volume and supports the outer layer of skin. As we age the skin loses its elasticity and its fibroblast has less ability to produce this natural filler. Other factors such as photoaging by extended sun exposure, smoking, poor skin care, and hygiene impact skin well-being.

Skin rejuvenation or skin tightening?

As mentioned before, we can use different techniques to help rejuvenate the skin and overcome and reverse aging effects. The treatment of choice for skin tightening depends on current skin status, skin color, the presence of contraindications, allowed downtime and the financial status of the client. Most of the used technologies for skin tightening in Edmonton are Fraxel laser, which is a fractional non-ablative laser, radiofrequency micro-needling such as Infini, Ulthera, Microdermabrasion, Filler, and Botox. We at Albany Laser and Cosmetic Center we do not limit our client with one technology.

Fillers and Botox

This is one of the most used cosmetic injectables and can be used for upper and midface augmentation. If you wish to know more, we design a special section for fillers and Botox.

PDO threading is a newer semi-invasive technique that helps to provide non-surgical lift. The best results are obtained with nasolabial folds, lower face and neck tightening. You will find more information about threads here

Ulthera uses focused ultrasound waves to heat the skin at a deeper level and help to induce collagen production. Please read more about Ulthera here.

Is considered one of the gentle treatment that provides superficial resurfacing and is an excellent way of maintaining the results of other treatments. More can be found here about Microdermabrasion.
