Dermal Fillers in Edmonton

Getting older isn’t too bad, but skin aging is less fun. Don't worry as dermal fillers may help. Looking a little older can be great, but sometimes our face and neck are worse than we would like. For that, Dr. Kamal Alhallak, Ph.D., offers dermal fillers to plump and nourish the skin.

“One of the fastest ways to look younger without surgery is dermal fillers,” said Dr. Kamal Alhallak, founder of Albany Laser and Cosmetic Center in Edmonton. “These safe, effective injections are perfect for making your face and neck look younger. The key to a youthful appearance is to re-plump the areas that have begun to get hollow or to sag.”

As we age, our skin makes less collagen and less hyaluronic acid. That makes our skin sag and creates wrinkles. It happens to everyone eventually. Some of us will look great right into our forties and fifties, but there are always those lines and dark circles to contend with.

Type of dermal fillers

There are three types of fillers in the cosmetic industry

Hyaluronic acid fillers

cross-linked HA fillers are temporary fillers. They give instant results and are reversible, however, they are temporary (last between 6-18 months)

Collagen inducers

Sculptra is the most famous collagen inducer. The PLLA microspheres in Sculptra are not filler themselves, however, they work as a scaffold to help natural collagen production. Sculptra takes 6-8 weeks to show results (gradual collagen-building process), and it might last 24 months.

Bovine Collagen products

Belafill contains ready-to-use bovine collagen. Therefore, this filler gives instant long-term results, but they are irreversible.

Where do we inject dermal fillers

We inject fillers all over the face: the cheeks, under the eyes, in the lips, in the chin, and much more. It’s a safe and simple way to look better. There is almost no recovery time and, other than a small injection or two, the process doesn’t break the skin.

  • Cheek fillers - Although we have cheekbones, much of our youthful appearance is created by our full and rosy cheeks. Over time, and with other factors like the sun and smoking, could damage the skin and the collagen in that area disappears. That gives us that familiar sunken cheek look that older folks have. With a filler, like Juvederm, your cheeks will look full and healthy again.
  • Nasolabial folds - These are those lines that go from your nose to the corners of your mouth, but fillers injection can eliminate them. Usually, we combine the nasolabial-fold correction with a cheek filler procedure. Together, this can take years off of your face.
  • Marionette lines - Those lines that come down from your mouth to your chin that look like a marionette’s mouth are among the most vexing wrinkles to do anything about. It requires that you get filler in that skin and eliminate those lines.
  • Lips - As we age, our lips tend to get thinner due to the loss of collagen and hyaluronic acid. Smoking and a lifetime of the sun can give us a lot of small lines around our mouths. Using dermal fillers, we can restore those full, pink lips you had when you were younger.
  • Forehead - Adding dermal fillers to your forehead can help to eliminate lines and wrinkles. The filler helps to support the skin on your face and will instantly make you look younger.
  • Recessed scars - If you have scars on your face that are hollows, such as the ones caused by acne, dermal fillers can help to eliminate them. Dr. Kamal will gently inject a filler into the scar and it will instantly disappear.

How do cosmetic dermal fillers work on facial rejuvenation?

The process of cosmetic fillers is simple. It starts with an asset by Dr. Kamal who will recommend the best products and procedures to achieve the results you’d like. Once a decision is made about what to do, Dr. Kamal will use a local anesthetic to numb the area. Then he will inject the right filler under the dermal layer. The whole procedure, from entering the examination room to leaving Albany Laser and Cosmetic Center can be as few as 30 minutes. There is very little recovery time, although you will likely be told to stay out of the sun and to avoid cosmetics for a few days while the injection sites heal.

What dermal fillers does Dr. Kamal use?

There are several dermal filler products available. Allergan manufactures Juvederm, the most popular filler. Galderma makes Restylane. These fillers have different thickness for different areas of the face. Juvederm Voluma is perfect for cheeks and facelift effects. It’s thicker and can support the skin and better. Around the eyes, we’ll use a thinner filler like Volbella.

Another excellent choice is Restylane made by Galderma. The Canadian Market has welcome several new fillers recently

Dr. Kamal will look at your skin and your needs and will choose the proper filler for each part of your face. We also offer Sculptra, which induces collagen production, and Bellafill, which is bovine collagen.

Dermal fillers versus Botox

Hyaluronic acid fillers help to put the plump back into the skin. Botox, on the other hand, paralyzes the muscles under the skin. This gives it a flatter, less wrinkled appearance. In other words, we inject Botox mainly for forehead, glabella (those little lines between your eyebrows), and crow's feet (smile lines).

Filler work nearly everywhere on the face, cheeks, lips, chin, marionette lines, bunny lines, forehead lines, and more. The natural hyaluronic acid in the fillers is, in fact, good for your skin.

There are times when Dr. Kamal will use fillers in one area and Botox in another. These two cosmetic therapies complement each other and can make one’s face look years younger in just a few minutes.

What type of dermal fillers do you need?

The best way to know what you need for your wrinkles is to meet with Dr. Kamal. During the meeting, he can offer you solutions that range from injections to laser therapy to the Botox treatment plan.

All of the procedures done at Albany Laser and Cosmetic Center have little or no invasive aspects. Recovery times are very short and all of these procedures are safe and very effective.

An option other than fillers?

Some people are scared to have a facial injection or prefer to go the natural way. Therefore, we offer natural options that rely on laser and HIFU such as Fotona and Ulthera

Laser Carbon Peel - Gentle but Mighty

The beauty industry is worth an impressive $532 billion – which is no surprise since 75% of women admit to buying skincare products in the hopes of looking younger.

Many women (and men) wish they could turn back the hands of time and reclaim younger, tighter looking skin. The first signs of aging show in wrinkles on your face.

Have you tried everything from creams and lotions to oils and invasive treatments to no avail?

Search no more! Here, you'll learn everything you need to know about the Carbon Peel treatment and why you should try it in 2020.

Ditch those creams and let's get into it!

What is Carbon Peel?

If you've never heard of the Carbon Peel process you might have the misconception that it hurts. Despite its name, Carbon Peel is an extremely safe and effective way of refreshing and rejuvenating the skin.

It also goes by the name Black Doll Peep and Hollywood Peel.

The Carbon Peel is a laser treatment recommended for people with oily or dull skin, body acne, enlarged pores, and blackheads. Using liquid activated charcoal, the treatment is gentle, with minimal downtime.

A layer of liquid carbon is applied to the skin and penetrates deep into your body's pores. The laser used is attracted to the carbon particles. When passed over the skin, the laser light finds and destroys the carbon along with oils and dead skin cells.

Benefits of the Carbon Peel Process

Are you curious about whether Carbon Peel is right for you and the benefits you can expect? Let's take a look at the many ways Carbon Peel can improve the look, feel, and health of your skin.

Target and Destroy Oil and Acne

It's already been stated that the Carbon Peel process is most beneficial to those with oily skin. If you're prone to acne breakouts or blackheads, you can also benefit from Carbon Peel.

Carbon Peel helps get to the root of the problem – literally. The process helps reduce the presence of bacteria that causes acne. It also shrinks sebaceous glands which are responsible for oil production.

Oil is to blame for clogging pores which cause blackheads and acne. By eliminating the amount of oil on your skin and bacteria, you'll see fewer outbreaks and pimples.

For some people, outbreaks occur on body parts other than the face. If you suffer from body acne on your back or chest, Carbon Peel can address these areas as well.

One of the main reasons people get facials is to exfoliate their skin.

Exfoliation removes old, dead skin from the surface layer allowing new, healthier skin to show through. Exfoliation is a major part of achieving younger, healthier-looking skin.

The laser used during Carbon Peel targets dead skin and blackheads, destroying them upon contact. Once this dead layer of skin is removed, your skin will appear softer and more radiant.

Continued Carbon peel treatments can actually reduce the size of pores, preventing dirt, oil, and bacteria from entering the skin. Over time, you'll also experience an evener skin tone.

When it comes to aging, one of the major complaints reported by women is that they wish their skin was tighter and less wrinkled. The Carbon peel process can address these concerns as well.

Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in your body. It's located in your muscles, bones, and skin and works to hold your body together. Collagen production directly affects the appearance and elasticity of your skin.

Carbon Peel works to stimulate your body's carbon production by targeting the deepest layers of the skin where this beneficial protein is found. This stimulation promotes firmer, plumper looking skin. It's also said to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

A Carbon Peel treatment will leave your skin feeling tighter and your face glowing!

One of the most basic principles of skincare is regularly cleaning your face. Built-up dirt, oil, and bacteria can easily clog pores, causing breakouts.

Aside from adopting a regular skincare routine at home, a Carbon Peel offers a deeper clean. During the process, carbon reaches deep inside your pores to absorb oil and bacteria.

Like a magnet, the laser finds the carbon which is attached to the contaminants inside your skin. It then absorbs and destroys them. Any residual particles left are then pulled from your pores and removed.

Carbon Peel provides a deep cleansing that supports and enhances your normal cleansing routine.

What to Expect From Your First Treatment

Knowing the benefits of Carbon Peel is step one. Now it's time to book your appointment and start your journey to healthier, younger-looking skin.

But before you do, you may be wondering what Carbon Peel treatment feels like and what to expect during your first appointment. Let's take a look!

The Carbon Paste

First, your technician will apply a very thin layer of carbon lotion, cream, or paste to your skin. It will set for approximately 15 minutes as it reaches the temperature of your skin.

As the paste dries, it attaches to the dirt, oil, and dead skin cells on the surface of your skin.

The Laser Light

Once the carbon paste is up to temperature and dry, the tech will run a small laser light over your skin. This part of the process is painless.

As the laser passes over your skin and detects the carbon, it creates a mini-explosion. Heat is pushed deep into your pores, killing bacteria and activating collagen production.

On the surface, the laser destroys the carbon particles along with oil, dirt, and dead skill cells.

Most people describe the sensation as warm and tingling. This warmth may last for a short while after the treatment is finished. This is completely normal.

You'll also be surprised at how smooth and plump your skin feels following Carbon Peel. You'll instantly notice a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and tightened pores.

Results are almost instantaneous.

Treat Yourself to Carbon Peel Treatment

Taking care of your skin is an important part of the aging process. Your skin is your body's greatest defense against bacteria and dirt. While adopting a daily skincare routine is important, it's recommended you perform a deeper cleansing periodically.

Carbon Peel is the perfect way to achieve a deep clean that leaves your skin looking and feeling years younger.

Acne Scars Correction

What are the acne scars?

Acne scars are the marks that cystic acne leaves on the skin. The chronic and acute inflammation associated with whiteheads and cystic acne is what causes acne scars. During the healing process and because of the abundance of inflammation mediators and cytokines, the skin goes through a fast tissue-building phase. In another world, your body does not pay attention to the details, yet try to recover and close the skin as soon as possible. Therefore, it will leave scar tissue behind and uneven skin surface.

Acne scars types

There are four different types of scars, depending on their appearance and edges, namely: Ice-pick, Rolling, Boxcar, and Atrophic scars.

Available treatment

What are the effective treatments for acne scars?

Through years of helping a client with deep and complex cases of acne scars. We developed a protocol that uses two different technologies: Radio Frequency Microneedling (RF microneedling) Fractora and Fractional laser (either Fraxel or Fotona). The RF microneedling mechanically disrupt the scar tissue; then we need a fractional or ablative laser to resurface the skin

What is Fractora RF microneedling

The machine has a handpiece that equipped with 24 isolated pin needles. The fact that these needles are isolated reduces the risk of the hyperpigmentation after the treatment, as the heat will spare the epiderm. The main advantage of the microneedling is that the mechanical effect in remodeling the scar tissue. Read more about case 1019 here

Do you want to learn about the difference between the Fraxel and Fotona?

If yes, you should check out this guide.

Acne scars are nature's cruel joke. You spend months or sometimes years fighting the frustrating battle against acne. You dig into your pocket for expensive medications or treatments before finally finding out what works for your skin.

At the end of the day, what is your reward for all that hard work? A face is full of pockmarks.

The good news is that acne scars are treatable. There are a variety of treatments and techniques, but some of our most effective options include two lasers: the Fraxel laser and the Fotona laser for acne scars.

What Is the Fraxel Laser?

Fraxel is a non-ablative fractional laser. "Non-ablative" means that while the laser can treat deeper layers of the skin, it leaves the surface of your skin intact. It casts the laser energy through the skin rather than piercing the skin.

"Fractional" means that Fraxel sends many thin beams of light into your skin. Other lasers use one thicker beam. While fractional lasers provide great cosmetic results, Â they get the job done with far less recovery time than traditional lasers.

Using these fractional beams of laser light, Fraxel breaks down scar tissue from acne scars. The heat also causes your body to produce fresh collagen: a natural protein that makes skin smooth and firm. That new collagen replaces the scar tissue, making your acne scars less visible.

On top of acne scars, Fraxel and its collagen-building powers can make your skin firmer, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Fraxel also reduces age spots by breaking down the excess pigment in your skin.

What Is the Fotona Fractional Laser?

The Fotona 3D Laser Face Lift is a unique treatment. The procedure uses three different types of laser action.

First, it uses intense long-puls ND-Yag laser, which is a non-ablative laser that builds heat deep in the skin to build more collagen. This laser travels deep into the skin, heating the deep layers of your skin to stimulate collagen production.

Finally, the Fotona laser uses a cold ablative laser to exfoliate the damaged surface layer of your skin. This reduces surface damage like fine lines while also helping to reduce your acne scars.

On top of the traditional Fotona 3D Face Lift, our team adds a fourth dimension called a "smooth mode" laser. We use this laser to send heat into the deep layers of skin around your mouth, in an area called the nasolabial folds. This rebuilds collagen in an area that's prone to wrinkles and aging.

How Are the Fraxel and Fotona Lasers Similar?

Fraxel and Fotona lasers have many similarities. They are both fractional, allowing them to have far lower recovery times than traditional lasers would require.

Both of these procedures also use multiple wavelengths of laser light. This allows them to address acne scars in addition to multiple types of aging.

Finally, both Fraxel and Fotona lasers are minimally invasive. They don't require any incisions or needles, so they're less intimidating than many other treatment options.

How Are the Fraxel and Fotona Lasers Different in Edmonton?

While they have their similarities, Fraxel and Fotona have plenty of differences as well.

First of all, Fraxel is entirely non-ablative, so your surface skin isn't disrupted at all. While Fotona uses some non-ablative lasers, it also uses an ablative laser during the treatment. This allows Fotona to treat some surface imperfections that Fraxel doesn't address.

That doesn't mean that Fotona requires more recovery time, though. Fraxel takes a more aggressive approach to treating acne scars and facial aging.

As a result, Fotona only causes mild redness after the procedure, and this fades within a few hours. Most patients even get their Fotona treatment during their lunch hour and go back to work afterward.

Fraxel, on the other hand, will lead to a longer recovery. Your skin will be quite red after the procedure, and it can take three to seven days for it to fade. You'll be feeling well enough to go to work, but you may not be happy with the way your skin looks for a few days.

How Do I Know if Fraxel or the Fotona Laser for Acne Scars Is the Right Choice for Me in Edmonton?

Knowing all the ways Fraxel and Fotona compare, how do you know which one is the best fit for what you need?

It all depends on your unique skin, your priorities, and the cosmetic issues you want to address. You don't have to figure it out on your own regardless. That's why we provide free consultations for laser patients.

Our laser technicians know skin and lasers well enough to tell you which procedure is best suited to your skin. We'll be able to talk to you about what each treatment entails and help you decide about which path to go.

Keep in mind that the course of treatment will be different for each person too. We'll be able to estimate how many sessions you will need with your chosen treatment before you get the results you want.
